That's just a bit of an exaggeration, right? At least using factory loads, it looks more like the STW will do at 500 yards what the RM does at 450, and what the 7-08 does at 300.

Per Remington's website: All 140 gr PSP Core Lokt, velocity at 100, 300, 500:

7mm-08
100 ...............300................500
2625..............2189...............1798

7mm RM
3175..............2458...............2039

7mm STW
3325..............2585................2153

Sounds like maybe you are comparing a "max" STW reload against average RM and 08 loads.

Interesting info. Thanks. I'm a bit recoil averse, so, I think I'm going stick with the factory loads in my 7-08. It's got all I need for those little Texas Hill Country bucks...

Don't forget about the 7mm-300. I'm going to build one some day. I've read about them. Very interesting.

Just my personal preference, but I perfer the 280 Rem over all of them. I like about ANY cartridge that is based on the 30-06 case, they all seem to be accurate and efficient.

FWIW I have a 7x57 and .280.Either will get the job done on any animal at any range I'm good enough to shoot at.For me that's between 3 and 4 hundred yards depending on shooting position/rest and wind conditions.

Most of the time I hunt with my 7mm Rem.Mag.(Just because I have been using it for so long I know it like the back of my hand and what and how far it will do it.)That being said I am a huge STW fan. Matter of fact I have been in the market for a custom built job.My gunsmith bud and myself sat down and had about a 90 min. discussion wound up with preliminary plans for a STW .Stiller predator or tac 30 action(I think the only difference is the finish between the two),Krieger barrel ,finish length depending on how close we can get it to node #4 Macmillan A 5 chassis.Single set trigger I forgot what brand I decided on ,don't have the spec sheet in front of me.What 'cha think Ridge? Do you like the Kriegers?
