Ruger 10/22 is the best imo. The Marlin 60 is another decent choice, but I highly prefer the 10/22. The Marlin 60 is usually slightly more accurate straight out of the box, but the 10/22 can be modified to be much more accurate. The biggest thing that ruins the Marlin 60 for me is the scope rails for the .22 style rings that's built on. I don't know why they would build that on. Seems like they have a lot of problems on recent ones with them not being cut exactly straight and the scope rings wanting to slide on them. Infact, with ones I've seen this has been a common problem which is why I hate these bases. Since it's made on you can't change it. On the .22 it's drilled and tapped so you can put any scope base you want on it. The 10/22 also uses magazines which I prefer as you can quickly change them out, as well as get high capacity magazines for it which are fun to play around with. Plus you can get pretty much any other aftermarket accessory you want for the 10/22. IMO the 10/22 is just a great rifle.

Another vote for the Ruger 10/22.

Ruger 10/22!! Great fun to shoot, and it will be accurate. Also fun to mess around with, every accessory you can think of is made for them.

If you're looking to buy something to accurize, then Ruger 10/22 is hard to beat.

Another vote for the Marlin 60. Not near as many aftermarket parts as the 10/22 but you don't need any.

10/22 or spend a few dollors more and get a Henry Lever action if you like levers.

If you hunt and this is your first 22, a bolt, lever gun, or pump is the only way to go because it will be killing game in the dead of winter long after semi-auto owners wrap their gun around a tree from all the misfires and jammed shots.

A Marlin bolt action is the best gun for the money, any money just not the under $250 pricing point.

The 900 series of guns are likely to go on clearance once the new models of Marlin rimfires (with adjustable triggers) hit the market. You should be able to pick up a 925 (clip fed) or a 980 (tube fed) for like $125 if you can time it right. Otherwise, the new model of rifles will be very reasonable as well.

A Marlin bolt is what I'd get with a Savage bolt a close 2nd.

marlin 60semi or whatever their bolt action is now (used to be model 25 i think). Put a scope on it and superaccurate right out of the box.
