Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
If you owned the following rifles, which ones could you comfortably use as trade items for other firearms that you do not have, and that would not duplicate performance:
Winchester 94s in .30-30, .356, .375, .307, and .444? Marlin 1895s in .45-70 and .450 Marlin? Winchester model 70s in .270, .7mm Mag, and .300 Win Mag? Thanks for your replies, Boltaction |
RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
You can always start by ditching the 30-30. The 307 is a better cartridge hands down. Next you can look at the big bores. You can send me the 375 Win, get rid of the 444 and 450 Mar and keep the 45-70.

RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
I don' t know enough about levers and their calibers to be helpful there, but their really isn' t much room between a .270 and a .300 Win Mag. No need to have the 7mm Rem Mag... but if it were my collection, of course, I' d just trim it to a couple of levers and keep all the bolts.

RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
tough as it is to say , i' de have to trade the .307 , it' s to close to the .308 in performance , the .356 is too close to the .358 , and the .375 is just a slightly more powerful version of the .38-55 . in fact , the .307 and .356 are just rimmed versions of the .308 and .358 that were built within pressure limits of the model 94 big bore and were equipt with blunt nose bullets for tubular magazine use,
i' de also trade the .444 marlin but , it would be a toss up between the .45/70 and the .450. i' de also trade the 7mm mag :D:D:D |
RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
You could safely get rid of the .444 & .450 and keep the .45-70. Dump the .30-30 also.

RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
Tough question. I would get rid of the .30-30 Win., and .45-70 Gov' t., because of duplicate calibers, and greater velocities. Good luck.

RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
To be honest all of the above except the 270 Win and the 45-70 if it is the cowboy model . Those are two calibers that I would keep .

RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
i would get rid of the 30-30win. and the 444 and 450marlin. and the 270win.
would be a toss up on the 7mm rem mag and 300win mag depending on which shot best. |
RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
I would keep none of the Winchesters if I owned one good Marlin. Out of the 2 Marlins I would keep the 45/70 because brass.. parts ...dies.. load data..factory ammo is more readily available and it can do anything the 450 can do. All the calibers in the levers you mentioned are 200 yard guns so just put up with the 45/70- Out of the Model 70' s I would keep the 7 mag... I still to this day notice no difference in killing power between it and the 300 win mag... |
RE: Which One(s) Would You Trade Off?
I' d get rid of all the levers and the 7mm Mag. No that I have anything against levers, they just don' t work well for my build.
I should add one of the lever calibers would be replaced by a custom bolt action in .450Marlin. Which I' m actually going to have built for real.;) |
