Jerry,
Shoulder them both while racking them with your eyes closed, and see which one "fits/feel" better..........................have the guy in the store put each of them in your hands.
I assume you'll be wearing a jacket. LOL I'm in SoCal

I have had several of each. Both are excellent calibers. The key to the 7mm/08 is it shoots a 7mm bullet and the 7mm projectial is the most areodynamic of. The 7mm/08 has a little recoil And ammo is not a problem if you plan ahead. The 7mm/08 is just as potent as a 7 mag out to 150-200 yards. No files on 308 I just personaly like the 7mm/08. Jim

I gotta disagree with ya............a rifle that "feels comfortable" means that it fits you properly........a proper fit will result in less felt recoil and better shooting.

That fit and feel will make all the difference when hunting. A rifle that speaks to you will naturally be a better shooter for you because it just feels right. Maybe not on the bench...but I havent seen many benches in the woods!
As far as chambering... I prefer the 7-08. However I handload.... and the ammo availability of the 308 is awfully tempting to those who dont. I cant really help ya much here either. Flip a coin unless one rifle just has "the feel" about it! LoL

Its true theres alot of military surplus 308 ammo out there but personally i dont see much more 308 hunting ammo, than 7-08ammo on the shelves at walmart and other places. the ammo I almost always see is 223 243 30-30 3006 270 and 7 mag. Come to think of it I only know one guy with a 308 hunting rifle. Almost everyone I know uses a 270 3006 or a 35 rem.
