Default Browning X-Bolt vs Winchester Model 70

I looked @ the X-Bolt yesterday and seems like a nice rifle so I've basically narrowed my choice down to these 2 brands. What's your opinion on these rifles and why in your opinion is one better than the other.

Have a caliber picked out?

If the game were dangerous and a big magnum I'd want a controlled feed like the M70,

I like browning in general...so I'd probably pick the xbolt.

Have 2 models picked out of each? syn/stainless? wood/blue? etc...?

I'm not a fan of Browning. In my opinion they're more looks than function.

My pick would be the Winchester M70.

Why do you say that Tom. Both seem to be nicely finished, actions are smooth wood is nice, although I like the checkering on the model 70 better, both seem to be quality guns.

I have an X-Bolt Hunter in 270 Winchester that shoots several 130 grain and 140 grain loads under an inch. The rifle fits me great and is pleasureable to shoot.

The only new Model 70 I have experience with is the Extreme Weather(synthetic stock/stainless steel). I love the look and feel of the rifle but the trigger seemed a tad heavy to me and the safety lever was very stiff.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either.

Jerry,

The most important question is what "features" do you what in this new 7MM-08/.308 rife of YOURS (syn/stainless? wood/blue?).

All mine have to have synthetic, stainless (24" barrel) with detachable box magazine and preferable under 7 lbs.

You might hate all of those "features" !

Remember, this one is YOURS !!!

Good luck with YOUR decision.....................

That's what I hear that's what I'm reading.

Sheridan I'm going with a wood/blued gun. Both guns feel good to shoulder. The Browning has the detachable magazine box the Winchester has the floor plate, doesn't matter to me one way or the other.
I like the stock a little better on the Winchester especially the Schnabel fore grip but I good live with either one.
Both guns have good reputations and loyal followings. Both are in the same price range give or take $50.
Going to Cabelas this weekend in PA. gonna compare them side by side then decide.
