Honest Gun Mags?
 

Does anyone put out and honest, objective gun magazine these days?
I like to read articles, but I cannot remember the last time I saw any gun, caliber or scope that was not " the greatest thing since sliced bread!"
I know that they all get the big $$$$ from advertizers, but come on!!!!!
I' ve even read about how good the Remington 597 is!
Is anyone out there printing the truth anymore?

i' m not sure about the truth , but i' ve always liked rifleshooter magazine :D:D , which mags are you talking about when you say that buddy ??? i know there are a lot of them :D:D

Even the American Rifleman seems to be taking kickbacks from Winchester these days over the short mags and super short mags. Its enough to make you want to go strictly black powder.

the only honest one i have read is gun tests magazine. they take NO advertisements, they do not have to worry about losing ad $$$ if they say " rifle X is a piece of crap.

American Rifleman and Guns & Ammo are two that come to mind.
As Frizz said Winchester must own American Rifleman! Along with Remington, I' ve seen the 710 and 597 praised there! Cheap scopes such as BSA and Trashco are great too!

Rifle Magizine and Handloader are good. But are expensive and only bimonthly.

To be honest, I have not seen all this dishonesty everyone is talking about. I am sure these guys see a bunch of guns a year. The 710 for instance is perfect for its intended use. For a guy that goes out shoots 10 rounds every year. Then goes hunting, it works. And I am sure these guntesters are excited about new items. Probably get tired looking at the same old calibers that been around for decades. I know I would.

It' s just business. If you want a monthly magazine that is completely honest and unbiased in its evaluation of various different products, then you should be willing to pay a lot more money for your subscription because they won' t have any advertisers to pick up most of the tab. I would bet that most, if not all, of any given magazine' s operating expenses are covered by its advertising revenue, so the subscription revenue is profit. The magazines can' t afford to lose the big-name advertisers who pay tens of thousands of dollars to run a full-page full-color ad in that magazine by slamming their product even if the evaluation is true. They lose a big advertiser then the price of the subscription would have to go up to cover the loss. If the price gets too high people won' t buy the magazine, which will cause more advertisers to stop advertising which puts the magazine out of business.

That being said, I think that many of the gun mags do write differently about a sub-standard product, but they are just more discrete about it. The review might come off as more neutral rather than just outright saying the product sucks. Or, if it really is that bad they might not print the review at all. Where a glowing review might be the magazine' s way of saying that the product really is pretty good.

i' ve been thinking about this , has anybody ever thought that maybe the products that are given to them for evaluation might be as good as they say they are but , because the manufacturers make sure they are 100% plus before leaving the factory , after all , they are sample pieces to generate sales, and then just let the regular products go to the public :D

Bill Ruger said that honest men don' t need magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, so I guess ruger makes ' honest' rifle magazines.
