the 30-06 is a great round, thats what my gun will be when i get it. ammo u can get anywhere while 280 migh be a lil more hard to come by. and u can handload it to make it close to the balistics of a 300 win mag

The 280 will shoot flatter with less recoil. For deer antelope and caribou it will do a great job for you.

I'm with stubblejumper....unless you come across a good 270 first...ooops, hope I didn't start a 270 vs 280 war.

280 IF YOU RELOAD. IF NOT GET 7MM REM MAG GETS MORE OUT OF A GREAT DEER, ANTELOPE CAL.(284)THAN THE FACTORY 280 LOADINGS.

.280 hands down! Especially with the other guns you have now.

with 165 grain bullets the balistics are the same so it doesn't really matter.

If you're considering a 280, why not step up to a 7mm mag? Shoots flatter. Hits harder. Great choice for mid to longer range deer hunting.

What's the diff? Ten one-hundredth's of an inch in length and 24 thousandths of an inch in bullet diameter. No animal on the receiving end could tell the difference. In identical guns, you probably can't either! Since you never had a .280 before, give it a try and have fun!
