257 weatherby

i was introduced to the 257 wby this last weekend, wow i couldnt believe the performance.it was a plainjane vanguard and smooth as silk,im thinkin this might be the ticket instead of a 243

The 257 weatherby is a great round. It has plenty of power and can kill just about any thing. This was Ed Weatherby favorite round out of collection. This round does not have that big a bullet, 120 gr is about as big as it gets, but the speed you can get out of it makes up for its punch. They are a lot of fun to shoot. Good luck if you decide to buy a gun in the round.

I've owned two of them over the years.....and now my favorite .257 is the Roberts.....

As good as the .257 Weatherby is.....it's not likely to do anything for you that your .243 won't do!

Been there.....went back!

what are you looking to do with a .243win.? .257wby?

I think I'd get a .270wsm over the .257wby, short action, no belt, higher BC's, SD's, still very fast, cheaper probably.

It is plenty flat and has a niche, and I think is 1 of the 2 most popular Weatherby's.

Personally fast/flat has it's place, but I think we almost give it too much value nowadays, ALL bullets drop, and most are closer to one another than you would think.

Cost & availibility of ammo is gonna about 3x the price of .243 and more difficult to find

I don't understand why everyone thinks no belt is an advantage, if you resize properly the belt makes no difference whatsoever.
Because, ever since the Ultra Mags and Winchester Short Mags came out, the gun writers have been singing the praises of the beltless magnums.

Can any of them outshoot a real accurate 300 Win Mag?

I shot a 257 WM many years ago and was well pleased. And it would make an excellent antelope, deer cartridge. Of course so do a lot of others. But I must say I really enjoyed shooting that rifle at targets 'way out there' with a good deal of success. I probably wouldn't go out and buy one - but I would never turn one down.
