Default 17 rimfire.............

Hornady Marlin and Ruger teamed up on this one. It is a 22 mag necked down for a 17 grain bullet.

Will it fill any kind on niche??

The only areas that I can see that it will do any good is areas where ricochet is a concern and there is very little wind. I read in "Shooting Times" that at 200 yds the bullet went 12 inches off course in an 8 mph crosswind. I think that is too much to compensate for. Also the ammo is probably going to be more expensive than the .22 mag, I'll just get a .223 and buy military ammo for 10 cents a round. Also, around here, an 8 mph crosswind is nothing, 15 is the norm, and 25 is quite common.

I think the first people to buy one are gonna be people witha fair bit of cash burning a hole in thier pocket. I dont know whether Id want one now but once the people who buy them come out with there report I might buy one. Sounds like a cool caliber. I read about it in guns and Ammo. And of the rifles they tested(Ruger and Marlin) Marlin did the best in all instances every test. Just something Id let people know about. Now that I yhink of it It may have been somewhere else I read it. Hmmmm... It was one of the big name shooting mag's that I read.

I read an article in shooting times where Rick Jamison tested two marlins and one ruger and both of the marlins out performed the ruger. But that doesn't mean that production rifles from ruger won't be good shooters.

Yes it was shooting times, that is where I read about it. And they said that the Marlin's were better. I have always liked Marlin's rifles anyway.

Been there, done that with the Rem 5mm mag. (.19 Rimfire) That was 25 years ago, and it flopped then. I strongly believe it will again.

I own a 5mm...Wanna buy it?? LOL

I knew a fellow that thought the 5mm was a great beaver round. If the .17mag bullet will go into a beavers head and not come out, it will be a round that will not damage pelts much. It could work well on fox, bobcat and coyote for the same reasons.

I have saw the 17rf ammo listed at $9.99 per 50 rounds. I belive i will stick to the 22mag and the 22LR

I have shot groundhogs with my grandpa's 17 but it aint a gun to shoot on even a slightly windy day. Its fun to shoot though cause if you dont flinch you can see the bullet hit.
