Chuck Hawks

Any of you guys go on his website or read anything he wrote ? What's your take on him?
I personal like his writings and agree with the majority of them. Some of stuff reminds me of Jack O'Connor's writings and believes.

I know that he has a website, but who is he and why does he consider himself an expert on firearms and motorcycles?

Dont really know.......but I would If you're a writer & what you're writing becomes truth for enough people I would guess it make you some sort of an authority.

I have read a few things from his website. He does not write all of the articles, but from what I have seen the information from his site is reasonable (if not deeply technical). Articles from his site often pop up on google searches. Seems like he deals with a lot of general information, and does a fairly good job. "Jack of All Trades" I guess.

Generally speaking Mr. Hawkes is a knowledgeable writer.

However, I'd love to see an independent test for pressure of all his loading data!

Jerry,

Chuck Hawks is not very well thought of by the bloggers on Huntingnet.com.
My impressions are that they don’t think he is very knowledgeable.
It seems that they think he is influenced by the manufactures (money, equipment, etc.) he speaks highly of.
I brought up his name a few times and I got an ear full of, “what does he know……………….”.
I was going to say something to you about using him as a reference, but I figured it won’t take long……………..and you’ll see for yourself.

He can be pretty informative but IMO he states the "obvious" too much.

He is VERY knowledgeable and tells it like it is, alot of these internet EXPERTS just dont like to hear the truth. The man is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to firearms.

He sure hates Tikkas, I'll say that. Kinda odd...

He hates Tikka's for good reason.

I think he is very knowledgeable. My only issue is when I read his reviews of more recent firearms and optics it's hard for me to believe he isn't being paid by the manufacturers.

I use his recoil table as a reference several times a year.

Randy Wakeman who authored many of the articles on shotguns for that site is a wealth of knowledge... a bit egotistical... but if you are going to be an outdoor writer... you have to either be an ego maniac, make fun of yourself a lot, or just never include yourself in your stories (which doesn't make for very good reading if you ask me).

I have generally found the website as a whole to be a good source of information of a broad array of topics. They tend to cover from the basic to the fairly advanced.

Tom I dont know if he gets paid or not from manufactures, but I've read some of his product reviews where the manufacturer sends a product to him and it doesn't get such a good write up. Some of the products that he doesn't like I feel the same way about.
The majority of his writings make sense to me & I dont find him condradicting himself......at least from what I've read.
