Default shotgun cleaning

I am getting ready to do a thorough cleaning of my shotgun for the 1st time. Remington says to use their own action cleaner for the trigger. Could I just use a household lubricant like WD40 or should I stick to the specified cleaner? Also the cleaning kit I have has bronze brushes. When/how should I use them?

NOOOO!!!!!! use remoil, wd40 is flammable, remoil is not. remoil is a great product, will take off rust like no tomorrow and also lubricates very well. i highly reccomend it. im not just saying that cause you have a remington shotgun. wd40 would work in a pinch but remoil is miles ahead for firearmas than wd40

I clean/lube the trigger assembly with Remoil. I'd put solvent on the bore brush and run it up and down several times, then put patches over the brush and run them through several times.

WD40 removes water, it is not a lubricant. I'm not particularly fond of Remoil, but you can use any kind of gun oil to lubricate.
