Default hog hunting

I got a question. I am moving to florida, and am going to do the hunter safety course in feb, and then book a hog hunt in march. I am also buying a 308 ar for deer hunting.

Is a 308 rifle to much for hogs?

It's been side time and time again, but a 308 will put anything in North American to sleep. Id opt for something larger on big bears, bison, and possibly moose though.

As for hogs, 308 will work beautifully. Nice short action round with 30cal hole.

I knew it would do the job, was little worried it might be over kill.

Can not wait to get down there and kill a hog, I saw one on some property we looked at buying here in SE indiana. IT dam near come up to me, I called the owner and he told me to kill it. MOM would not let me as she thought it was someones pet

I went to Texas with some local folks hog "hunting". They used dogs to chase them down and we handcuffed them and put a pole through the handcuffed legs and carried them back to the truck alive. We then sold them to game farms that wanted them.

One of the guys also used two rifles on far away pigs....one a .243 and one a .300 Magnum. Long range was important to that hunt when we didn't want to let the dogs out.

From that experience I'd say the ideal hog gun might be a .270 Winchester.....not for the power....but for the range.

BTW....they make excellent breakfast sausage!
