243win.
well i have done some checking and homework for a new rifle. ( like posted before ). i am leaning to the 243win.over the 308win just cause i don't have a light round that can go for multi purpose hunting.
i have talked to a man yesterday who his 16yr old son shot 2 200lb deer in the past two seasons with a 243win. the inside was all jello with factory ammo.
my question is. with reloads and the right bullet.could the 243win be good for big boddied deer in shots from 20yds out to 300yds? what would be the minimum grain used for deer?

Personally I'd like a little more gun but I've used the .243 and a friend used a 6mm Rem...and at farther distances than 300 yards. I've also used 100 grain bullets in a .25-06 for years and it worked nicely.
Today my favorite deer rifle is a toss up between a .257 Roberts and a 6.5 X 55....both in the .243 class....
It just might be among the most controversial cartridge.....but many folks have used it with amazing success....and I've seen it work many many times.
If you want a .243 then get one and rest assured.....it'll do the job!

A 243 is one of the most perfect cartridges ever invented. Great for new hunters and enough gun to kill up to and bigger than deer. Lack of recoil makes it one of the easiest rounds to shoot really well. 100 grain partitions will handle big bodied deer all day long. And you cant ask for a better antelope round than an 80 gr ballistic tip which works lights out on coyotes as well. Get one and youll never be disappointed.

i love it. i have not taken a deer with it yet but with my 139gr.interbonds they group nice . i think it kicks more than my old 308win but it comes up nice and i know in some of the logging cuts and slashes it will do what i need it to do.

Kicks more than .308 ? According to recoil charts it's suppose to kick less.I believe the BLR is a fairly light rifle that would explain the "more felt recoil". What rifle is the .308 ?
