You might want to check a Recoil Table to compare various rifle such as:

Well semi I'm sorry to disappoint you but I shot a lot of deer in thick woods with a .243. I guess you just must have been in too much of a hurry and made a less than ideal shot.
But back to the post, I have both and use both on deer. This argument is just about the same as the 30-06 vs the 270 only with a little less 'oomph'. Both will get the job done. And as far as recoil goes, all else being identical the 7-08 will recoil more than the .243 simply because of the heavier bullet. Its simple physics.

where did i say in my post that you can't use a 243 in the woods? are you sure you were responding to me? i don't think anything i posted could be argued with to be honest.

want to see a 7-08 recoil, try my loads, 110% fill of RL19 behind a 162 gr sst
2800+ fps.. which makes it as flat as shooting as my .243 with 100 gr factory ammo.
My 120 gr load aint bad pushed to 3110 fps, thats a flat shooting mo-fo.
heres a quick vid.

I expect that he was responding to seminolesfan, and used semi as shorthand, not realizing there was another semi posting in the thread...

Since it looks like we need an expert opinion i'll go ahead and tell all of you, the only 308 based catridge that should be considered for anything bigger than a coyote is the base 308 offering, the other SA's would make fine varmint rounds at best, everybody knows you need magnum power to kill todays deer
BTW i like the 243 for squirrells and the 7-08 for prarie dogs
