Rem 1100/slug issues

Greetings all. I recently came into a 1977 vintage Rem 1100 12ga with a smoothbore slug barrel, and a 26" fixed full choke vent rib barrel. Wondering if anyone can suggest a slug load for the slug barrel. I got out to shoot it today, and it was all over with Fed Truball slugs. Any suggestions welcome. Thinking about just getting a rifled barrel for it at some point.

I have a couple 1100's...one from the early 60's and one from the late 70's.

Neither will group a slug through the smooth barrel to save their life. I bought a cantilever rifled barrel and it's game on....shooting 2" groups at 100yds w/ it.

Maybe you can keep trying slugs...but your best bet may be to look for a barrel now. Problem is that a good slug barrel for the 1100 costs more than an H&R slug gun...that will outshoot the 1100 in my opinion.

I bought one new back in 1975, mine has a 22 or 21 inch barrel, rifle sights and is improved cylinder...I didn't know they made a slug barrel longer than 22 inches and in full choke...Back then, most were more open cylinders than that...

At any rate, mine grouped terrible with both Federal and Winchester foster type slugs but does very well with the Remington Sluggers...Inside 2 inches at 50 yards with open sights...

Ya, I was shooting those truballs and no consistency at all. I will try the sluggers from remington. I've always heard that remington slugs don't work well in a remington gun, but I will try it for sure. The 26" barrel is a vent rib shot barrel, in full choke. The gun came as a combo just to clarify.

I have a 1100 got it in 1972 and it shoots the remington sluggers the best 2'' groups at 50 yds it will not shoot federals there all over the place 22'' slug barrel open sights but for the rifled barrels cost and the 10.00 bucks a box for slugs I will just use the old smoothbore its never let me down

I have to agree. My Dad has that gun, smooth barrel I/C with rifle sights and the remington slugs work very well in that gun.

mine is a early 90's 1100 and it likes rem sluggers and brenneke's

If you can find the all plastic hull ACTIV's they shot really well out of my dads 1100. They are rather hard to find nowdays. He bought a case when he saw how well they shot and still has a bunch of boxes left over. I have seen the Brenekes shoot well also. You may also look at the Lightfields. I know I will hear some crap about them being for rifled barrels, but I have seen them shot decent out of smoothbore barels. Never know till you try!!!!!!

If the Remington sluggers suggested above don't work, try the hybrid style slugs like Remington Buckhammers, Brenneke KO Slug (not the sabot version), Lightfields, etc.
