If the original gun has a .473 boltface such as a 25-06, .270 win, 30-06, .243, .308, then a 7mm-08 should work fine. If you are trying to rebarrel a magnum to a 7mm-08, then you'll likely run into feeding and firing problems.

No point in doing that a 7mm08 is a short action cartridge so rebarrel that longaction in 280rem and you will realy have something. In short rebarrel it in any 06 case based cartridge you like. If you start with a short action and use a 20" barrel it will be < 40" OAL sweet to carry.

........ Well, I surmise that the man has a LA available and simply wants to know if he can re-barrel to 7-08, a cartridge he likes. My answer is "yes", it can be done.

The action is a T3 tikka, it's chamber in the 25-06 right now which I have it shooting well. I was looking at ballistic's one day and look at the 7-08. I figure if I were to put it into long action I could reap the benifits of having the bullets seated out of the casing. And be able to add powder to make it an efficent hunting/bench rifle. I figure the action should work well for it.

Sure you can chamber it for the 7mm-08 but I still say chamber it for the .280 Remington rather than the 7mm-08.
If you want to go short action for a BR/hunting rifle then go .260 remington rather than 7mm-08.
