I have a 7x57 and .280 both Ruger bolts.Today I would go with the new Win model 70 Featherweight in 7-08.That's nothing against Ruger. Both are reliable, accurate, etc. It's just that I always liked the model 70,would like a little variety and the new ones are excellent.

My next buy is a ruger m77 laminate compact, in 7mm-08. Look it up online, you might like it. It's basically gonna be a whitetail only rifle, as I have other things for use elsewhere. I'm getting it because it's compact, light, shoots good, and looks good. Worth looking into.

I have a Ruger Hawkeye M77 in .270. If I ever get drawn for an Elk tage I will prolly pick up another Ruger in 7mm mag or 300 win mag.

.... I've never owned a 7X57, but I have owned and killed my share of whitetail with .280 Rem., 7MM Rem Mag and 7MM-08 Rem. Personally, the 7Mag is my least favorite. The .280 Rem. is one fine round, but the 7-08 has become my personal favorite by far... easy to work up a load for and light in the recoil dept. I see no reason to even consider a change for my go-to deer rifle. Lots of good factory ammo out there for it if you don't handload, also.

My go to is a old win.70 in 7mm rem mag.But I really like my 7mm STW.If you are not recoil shy check out the STW.JMHO ,But I think it is a super round.
