mossberg 870 rifled barrel w/ scope

I just bought one of these barrels for my rem 870 exp and i don't know what to think yet. I bought 2 boxes of hornadays sabot slugs to sight in the scope and they would jam after every fire. I could cycle through them unfired fine but when i fired one it would get jammed in the barrel. So i got a box of win super x 2 3/4's didn't even come close to a group at 50 yards. Was out today and got 2 boxs of win suprem elite xp3 3 shots and 50yards terrible grp move the target to 25 yds for the last 7 shots got crap again. So i was putting away the gun when i notice some slide marks on the scope yep the factory installed scope wasn't very tight so the scope was moveing. So i have already spent 75 on ammo for the barrel and scope i only spent 200 on. Also on the last note i cann't get the wires in the scope to come in to focus at all when the target is in focus.:s6: Has anyone else bought this package by mossberg for the 870 and if so how has it worked out for you .

those scopes are notorious for being crap

Jeff50316 11-06-2010 07:36 AM

yep i think i might just go and buy a new scope for it. thinking about another 3x9x40 for the bigger eye peice. still trying to adjust to the cantilever mount for the scope being so high.

Do yourself a favor, and spend some money on the scope. Buying cheap scopes, will give you cheap results. Get some good glass, and that gun should be a good shooter. Good luck, let us know your results!

It would seem there is an ejector problem, not a barrel problem.
The unfired shells are obviously heavier and will work properly, but it's losing contact with the spent casing which is causing the jam.

Take it back to the store with an empty casing and explain the situation and see what they come up with, if they are clueless, go to a gun shop with a gunsmith and see if it's a fixable problem.
