slug gun
 

im lookin to buy a slug gun. but im not sure what the best gun for the money is . im not trying to break the bank .so my question is what are some good slug guns?

Mossberg 500 with a cantilever/rifled barrel is a well proven shotgun, and you can still put a decent scope on it. Also the H&R's are excellent but are single shots, the Savage bolt action is excellent as well, Remington 870 is excellent

I have an Remington 870 and love it. I put one of them ShurShot stocks and a Nikon 2x7x32 scope on it last year. It also has a Hastings cantilever rifled barrel. It shoots Lightfields very well also.

i dedicated my 870 to my slug gun. hastings barrel and nikon 3x9. i wanted the ithaca deerslayer 3 but thats over a grand.. then savage came out with the 220f and now i really want one. its only a 20 gauge but they are talking 200 yards with this gun and the accutrigger is amazing. i have it on my 93v17 and i love it. i would like to get my 870 barrel pinned but not sure if i can but you can never have enough guns so if i can pin my barrel ill do it because after $200 in slugs i finally have a real nice gun that i finally found some ammo she likes. i took a buck at 173 yards with my setup using partition golds and he dropped instantly. i def want a 220f and will get one as soon as i can

There's not a whole lot of difference between the avg priced pumps.If you want a good pump then Browning or Ithaca.For low cost the H&R is easily the most accurate if you can live with a single shot.

I've read all the other replies and while I think some of them are extremely good others just seem extreme to me. Now I'm not saying a 200 yd slug gun isn't possible. In fact given that the 20ga sends a small projectile through a smaller diameter hole with the same amount of powder I think it can be done. But it is as the other person pointed out, going to cost you a pretty penny.

I have 3 slug guns. As an Indiana they've been my bread and butter for deer. I have an 870 with a cantilevered barrel. It shoots pretty good out past 80 yards or so. I'd say I've got 600 in that gun total. I've got an old marlin bolt action 20 ga. Its pretty good at the same ranges. It was a gilfe o me a few years ago from my parents so I'm not really sure how much it was. Then there's the HR Ultra Slug 20ga. Tack driver at 100 yds. I paid 140 for it used from a friend of mine. I put a new scope on it. For the money it was the best one.

Cliff notes: You could waste money trying to convert another gun into a slug gun. Or you can go buy the hr if money is an issue. It'll drive tacks at 100 yds and with the right slugs may even do somethign at 150.

Certainly for you can not beat the H&Rs for the money - no way. Round here they are going 250. Your new typical "deer combos" of a pump with 2 barrels are a real good deal for alot of guys. Will you get the accuracy as far out as an H&R? Most likely not. But I saw the Mossberg w/ shot barrel and screw in chokes, cheek combs and a cantilever rifled barrel at Gander Mountain for 329(?). That's a darn good deal. And of course there was a Rem 870 for 369/379(?)

And the Savage was there at 429 or something (maybe 459). I have heard these are quite accurate but have never shot one.
