308 Range

Whats the range of a .308 caliber rifle with a 150 grain bullet, would 300yds be asking to much from this caliber? Also what would the recoil be like compared to a 25.06 with a 120grn bullet? Thanks!

RE: 308 Range

No, 300 yards is not asking too much of the .308 for deer hunting (just assumed you meant for deer) to at least 300 yards, IF YOU ARE A COMPETENT SHOT AT THAT RANGE!! A .308 with 150 grain bullet will kick somewhat harder than an equal weight .25/' 06 with 120 grain ammo. But your .308 will probably be a lighter gun, causing more recoil to be felt by the shooter.

RE: 308 Range

Maybe someone could explain this too me. What does it mean, when someone asked the range of a round? Are you asking what is the energy level? Or most convienent round. Or just when the bullet is not stabilized any more.

The 308 will stay supersonic all the way up to 800 yards or so depending on the bullet. And is accurate. Carries 1000ft/lbs of energy up to 600 yards. Depends what you want. Do you want to guessimate the POI but keep your scope zero' d at 100 yards. Or have target turrets. Or just set the scope up so your max path hieght or drop is does not exceed a certain kill zone range? I call my 308Win my 200 yard gun. If the situation was right, I mean really right, I would take a 300 yard shot knowing I need to adjust for 8" with my gun zero' d at 200 yards.
