[SOLVED] Is this assembled correctly?
 

I have a Remington 1100 from the 70's. It is not ejecting shells but it does re-****. I took it apart and replaced the o-ring... that was some time ago and it still does not eject unless I pull the action back manually.

Below is a photo that looks like what I have except, I have an o-ring on mine. Does this seem correct?

To me it sounds like the ejector. I'd try replacing that I don't think a O ring is the problem. I'd try that if that dosnt work I'd say take it to a gunsmith and have it checked.

I am hoping it is not the ejector but now that I have thought about it more, I think you are right. I will finish out this season before bringing the gun to a gunsmith. It does still fire just fine.

In the mean time, does is the assembly, I mentioned above, correct?

Yea from what I can tell it is

I have both a 70s' & 80s' model 1100. You may have tried this but mine from the 70s' will not eject light load shells, so you may want to try a little hotter shell. The 80s' model shoots anything I feed it.

I'll double check after I get home from Church, but I believe the o'ring actually goes around the magazine tube to seal the gasses...It's not going to seal them where you have it...

Good to know about the light load... that is all I have shot. I have tried Winchester target load and some Federal load... that is light as well. I am hunting grouse with it. I will get some heavier load shells today and try it out.

I plan on going out to hunt some grouse today. At least where I'm hunting, I pretty much only get one shot at a grouse, I won't feel like I lost a shot. The woods are pretty dense but there are a bunch of grouse!

Also, I will try moving the o-ring from where I have it now, and see what happens. When I took the barrel off the other day, that is where the o-ring was. I could have put it on there last time.

I now have a properly functioning, semi-auto shotgun!

I finished hunting for grouse tonight and decided to just take a couple of shots to see what would happen. When I took the first shot I saw something fly off to my right. I thought: NO! Now my gun is falling apart! Then I looked at the ground and saw an empty shell! That was a good feeling!

Thanks for the help all. The solution was that the o-ring was supposed to be directly on the magazine. So it should have been in front of the piston... not on it.

On another note: the Federal 12Ga I am using is Heavy Load... so I have used heavy load and light load. I did not try firing the light load yet.
