Mossberg 100 ATR cnterfire bolt action
Does anyone have any info on the Mossberg 100 atr? A friend is concidering purchasing one due to low price. I myself am a remmington or ruger guy and I was not able to provide any info. Looking to find out how they shoot, how well are they put together, etc.

I was looking at the 243 cal. wood stock that comes with the fluted barrel in a youth model short action.
I know the early model has a press fit bolt but I spoke with Mossberg customer service and was told they re-design the bolt on the 2010 mdel that the firing pin screws into the bolt body and improved on the extractor. |
I bought the 100ATR in .270 for my wife. It's the black synthetic scoped combo. It came boresighted and took about 5 shots to get it sighted in really well. My wife has never shot a gun before and she was shooting 1" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. I was seriously impressed for a $299 deer rifle. I've been considering a new rifle for myself lately and also looking for a starter rifle for my kids. Mossberg makes the 100ATR in a Super-Bantam model that would be great for the kids, but I want the 4x4 Mountain rifle in 30-06.
Starting this year all 100ATRs come standard with a fluted barrel and all 4x4's come standard with fluted barrel and muzzle break. Their website says you can get them in 30+ calibers, but I don't see all of that on the specs. I see: 243, 25-06, 270, 308, 30-06, 300 Win Mag and 338 Win Mag. |
I was looking at the Mossberg too. I did some research on different rifles and eventually settled on the Stevens Model 200. It got good reviews, but it was in stock and Im not very patient, so that played a part too! Its not a pretty rifle, but I put a nice camo job on mine and it looks good now. I got mine in .243 because of the flat trajectory and I use it on whitetails and coyotes here in SC. It shoots between 1/2 and 3/4 MOA with Federal Vital Shok 85gr BTHP. I have it zeroed at 300 yards and can pretty much shoot deer dead on from 100 to 350 yards. Its grouping between 1.5 and 2 inches at 300 yards. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 scope and a Rifle Basix trigger set at 3.5 pounds. All together I have about $800 in this rifle set up and I couldnt be happier with it. Its just plain nasty. Took a big doe last year at just over 200 yards. She didnt go 5 yards. I get some crap for having a .243, but I dont care. This is the best rifle I have ever had, and a fraction of the price of others.

i own several Stevens 200s which are fine guns but my new Mossberg 100ATR has a lightening trigger set at 2 lbs, a flutted barrel and is a light 22" 270. I love it and shoot it well. Cost was #299 at Academy.

I have had my Mossberg in .308 since August and I have been very satisfied with its performance at the range. I haven't had a chance to use it on game yet, but I'm looking forward to the 1st of December. I'll be honest, it didn't shoot all that great out of the box, but after a little gun oil around the bolt and along the sides of the magazine follower, leveling the scope, tightening the rings and the mounts it performs perfectly. And that new LBA trigger is really something else!
