I bought a Savage package deal 5 years ago at DSG for $400. After I got more involved with hunting (bow, muzzleloader, shotgun etc) I wanted to upgrade my rifle. The Savage was awesome and a shooter for sure, but wanted something better. The local store took $200 towards any new rifle for my Savage. They had a Rugger M77 Hawkeye stainless in .270 Win for $492. After the trade is was $292.00. Is that a good deal in your mind??? Cabelas had the same rifle for around $650.

I'd do it. Savage rifles are good shooters but I don't like the way they feel. The rugers feel good to me look good and from what I hear the hawkeyes are shooters too. I think them allowing 200 is a fair offer from a dealer but you could probobly get closer to 300 if you sold it yourself to sombody that's not a dealer.

That sounds fair enough to me. You could get more for the Savage selling outright like mentioned. The Hawkeye's are a fine rifle. I've been using the M-77 MKII's for years. I have one Hawkeye in 300 WM which I haven't fired yet.
Good caliber choice. I really like a 270 Win.
Good luck with your new Ruger.
