Steel shot

My dad gave me a ammo can of loose 12ga shotgun shells and there were a bunch of steel shot loads in it. I don't duck or goose hunt and was wondering what type of choke I can use. I have a Remington 870super mag with a full modefied and extra full chokes. Also what else can I hunt with em? Thanks

If you use your modified choke you should get patterns very close to your standard full patterns .

I'm repeating "comon knowledge" and in print more or less validated by my own shooting.

Use the steel up on your 3-5 lb game at ranges under 40 yards and over 25 if you can. The steel shot will have a much higher pellet count than lead. I don't remember exactly but,it seems like a 1 3/8 has the same pellet count as 2oz of lead of the same size.

Out west we can only use non toxic on the WMAs no matter what you hunt.
