semi or double barrel
 

I am thinking about getting a shotgun for some skeet, watefowl and turkey hunting. WOuld like one gun to do both in a 12ga.

Thinking either a double barrel side by side or a semi auto.

So would you recommend the semi auto or double barrle. I would like to stay around 600 if I can not sure if I can get a double barrel for that.

I'd be looking at over/under, or semi-auto.

for what you're talking I'd probably choose a semi-auto.

for pheasants etc...I might lean towards an O/U

I'm personally not a big fan of Mossberg shotguns....they don't feel right to me.

If your a serious waterfowler, I sure wouldn't get a double. You wouldn't last long here hunting sea ducks. The only thing I use a double for is upland game. And thats what they were made for. I know they look cool and are reliable, but not much use for a serious duck/goose hunter.

I use a browning gold 3.5 and rem 1187 for duck. I use a bps for turkey.

Semi auto and agree with the baretta suggestion. Friend has a mosseberg 935 which doesn't cycle light loads well at all, since you mentioned trap/skeet it maybe be a frustrating experience similar to his. My baretta cycles light to mag loads without a hickup.

That's a very broud range of options for just one shotgun to fill. If you hunt waterfowl from any kind of blind, reloading either a SxS or O/U can be annoying. As already stated, they're at their best as an upland gun. With an auto, you're going to have to be able to cycle very heavy turkey loads as well as the opposite end of the spectrum for skeet. That'll challenge the reliability factor of most autos. Be prepared. A slide action is not at all ideal for skeet, though fine for trap.

I've seen quite a few Benelli, Browning, and Beretta autos lately (the "three B's" again) in the leagues I shoot. I've used Benelli and Browning autos on geese and they worked just fine. If you really want to cover such a wide range of options, I think you'd best plan to spend some coin in those directions.

I hunt (shoot) geese from a pit locally with an O/U.....I'd highly recommend an auto for this job. The O/U is quite inconvenient! However if you learn to shoot, the third round in the magazine isn't a big advantage, it's being able to load the gun with the barrel pointing up!

I recomend the Remington 1187. I have one and have used it for skeet&trap also for squarel turkey and crows. It's just as reliable with lowbrass #8s as it is with 3.5inch #5 turkey loads. Also have a slug barrel for it works good with that too. I don't duck or goose hunt but kno people that do and they praise the 1187. You can find em for 600and under. Mine has never Jamed or misfired. It's the best auto for the money in my book. I've herd bad things about mosberg 935 suposedly there made cheaply and parts break. I don't know first hand but that's what I herd. I'm a pump guy the Remington 870 supermag is my go to shotgun but when I wanna use a semiauto I grab my 1187.

I think semi auto is the way to go. The Beretta is a nice gun. Looking at the middle of the month when I buy. I will get a short list together of different modules and ask you guys. I did not realize Beretta sold shotguns.
