Default Scope Reccomendations for Reminton 700

I own a Remington Model 700 in 6mm remington with a heavy bull barrel on it. I was thinking of using it for deer this year here in PA. What would you guys reccomend for a scope to put on it. I don' t have a lot of money to spend on it. Tell me what brand and power you would reccomend. Thanks for the help in advance.

You' ll first probably catch a lot of flack about the 6mm being a little too small for deer. That' s hogwash. It' s a fine caliber if you choose fairly heavy bullets and learn to shoot the gun.

On a gun like that, where long-distance shooting may be in the cards at some point, I would put a variable power scope on it. Maybe one that stretches up to 12 power. Maybe a Leupold or Bushnell Elite.

The 6mm is a flat shooting caliber.....If you put a 4X scope on it, you are limiting the functionality of the rifle.

I support the 6mm and .243 for deer!! not a problem if you can shoot straight.
Leupold scope or the bushnell elite 4200 is what I would use. I would atleast put the 12x power on it, what else do you do with the 6mm?

I have a remington 700VS .308 with a 6.5-20x50mm Leupold scope on it, and I will kill deer with it no problem...

You can sometimes find simmons 44 mags for under a hundred bucks. i have one on my sons 700 in 243 and it is a good scope for the money.
It' s a pretty clear scope and i have been surprised at how well it performs in low light.

go to midway i got a flier this week where they had refurb simmons pro 50' s on sale for like $50. same warranty . the stock number was 915-946.

they also had another great low money scope a sightron s1 3x9x40 for $129. sightron has the best warranty in the business. no questions asked replacement.
number was 268-061

these were in a frequent buyer flier so i am not sure they are actually on the websight but you can ask. good luck.

I' m assuming since you' ve got a heavy barrel 6mm it doubles as a varmint rifle? I' d have guessed if you wanted a long distance deer rifle you' d have a larger caliber. I' m not knocking the 6mm, but it doesn' t have a lot of energy out past 300 yards unlike some of the 7mm and 300 mags. Anyway, assuming you' re using the rifle for dual purpose, how about something in a 5-15X or 6-16X scope? 5 or 6X would be low enough for closer shots and 15 or 16X will work for long range varmints. Since you mentioned you don' t have a lot of money to spend, you might take a look at the Bushnell Trophy or Elite 3200 line of scopes.

I would not go higher than 3 to 4 power for the minimum magnification for a deer rifle in case a very close shot presents itself.Higher than 12 power is not necessary for deer hunting.

It' s hard to use a scope for both varmints and deer on that particular caliber.

Like what diyj98 said, a 6mm isn' t the perfect caliber for bigger game at long distance, but is alright for close range(200 yards or so, maybe a little more if you reload). For varmints, a high power variable scope would be good. For deer, I wouldn' t go over 12 power, like what stubble said. But, all I have ever used was a 3-9x40 Leupold on my rifles for deer. You can kill deer with that caliber at a good distance, but it' s not the perfect caliber for it. I think you picked the right caliber if you are useing it for both varmints and deer. A little more powerful than a .243, and a flat shooter at long distances.

2.5 to 12 power, 38 to 50 MM and stay out off the AO scopes if you want to hunt deer with it . That what I use on my rifles . Just get the best one you can afford .
