Locktite on scope mounting screws?
 

Which loctite should I use on the scope base mounting screws, green or red?

Likewise, for the rings. Do you locktite them as well?

USE LOCK TITE BLUE ON THE MOUNT SCREWS AND THE MAIN RING SCREW. I WOULDN' T USE IT ON THE TOP OF THE RING UNLESS YOU ARE FOR SURE YOU HAVE IT SET PERFECT FOR EYE RELIEF AND STRAIGHT CROSSHAIRS.

THE BLUE IS NICE BECAUSE IT WILL DRY TIGHT BUT YOU CAN STILL REMOVE THE SCREWS FAIRLY EASILY.

Chubber, The Blue Loc-tite #242 is the one you need to use. If you use the Red #262 you' ll never get ithe screw loose if you ever need to remove it.I' m not sure but the Green LT is #290(?). I have no experience with the green.Just use the blue on the base screws and not on the rings screws.Loc-tite is available at auto parts stores in small tubes.One little tube will last you for a long time.

Thanks for the comments. I have all flavors of locktite. I didn' t suggest the Blue before because I have had it come apart under even moderate heat. I worried that the receiver would heat up and that would be it.

So, no locktite on the ring screws? Those are the ones that usually come loose on me? Should I use rubber cement on them to keep them from vibrating loose?

Is there a torque spec for the receiver screws or ring screws, or should I just use the standard thred-based values. (Gotta look them up in the handbook...)

BLUE!! I have also had good results with clear nail polish. By all means, use it on the screws that are the ones that are always coming loose!

The blue works the best. The red is overkill. The green is very thin and used for penetrating very fine threads or splines. Use it only on the bases unless you have a problem with the rings coming loose.

Use blue loctite on base screws only.It is not necessary on any ring screws including the windage screws on leupold or redfield mounts.
