Since heavier bullets have your interest, don't overlook the Hornady Interlock 190 gr.Looks like a good compromise between your 2 favored weights.Midway shows 12 ratings on that bullet and they're all 5 stars. If you're sure you're getting a .30,those bullets are on clearance.Cheers!

The Remington CDL would make a fine rifle in a 30-06.

I have also been hearing good things about the Ruger Hawk Eyes, but I have no first hand experience with them.

Don't overlook the Browning LH rifles. They are a great choice if you want synthetic stocks or SS rifles. And they have some larger cartridges available.

I have a Browning hunter model in the 300 WSM(LH). It is a great rifle. I also have a RH Savage 12 in a LH TH stock in 300 WSM that is a great rifle. It makes a great long range rig with the heavier barreled action and larger stock(flat forearm). Tom.

I have been shooting a .300 WSM for 4 years now (Rem 700 SS). It is an awesome caliber. Same ballistics as a .300 Win Mag, with slightly less recoil. I use it for hunting Mulies / Elk out West. In my opinion, its too much gun for whitetails. Especially when 90% of my shots are under 250 yards. I use a .243 for whitetails

How about a nice lever action, can be used left or right handed. I'm thinking that a Marlin 338MX would fit the bill just right. The .338 Marlin Express should work great on elk out to 400 yards or more. Energy and trjectory are compareable to a 30-06, and these newer lever actions are more accurate that most shooters can handle.

I use the 165 gr Hornady Interbond, RL-19, and WLRM primers. I developed my loads before RL-17 was available, and one day plan on trying RL-17 as it was made for the Short Mags.
