older Ruger 77

I was thinking about buying a .270 in an older model Ruger 77 with wood stock. Any comments on your experiences with one of these and how the accuracy is would be appreciated. Thanks.

( I have a 1985 model 77V in .308 hvy bbl and it is the finest built rifle I ever owned, was thinking I might find similar in a .270 with sporter bbl).

I own one that I bought new in 1980 in .243, my brother owns one that he bought used in .270...Both shoot very well, no problems...I prefer the tang safety and a trigger that can be adjusted...If the gun is in decent shape, I'd buy it...

.......I actually gave away the best shooting bone-stock .270 Win. I ever owned. It was an older tang safety Ruger 77. That gun shot 130 gr. Rem. factory ammo unbelieveably well. The son of a good friend of mine has it yet. I gave him the gun nearly 20 yrs. ago. Go ahead... if you can find a nice one, I'd buy it.....

My buddy has a tang safety M77 in .270 that shoots MOA with just about any ammo you put through it, factory or handloads.... He bought it in 1973 or 74.. I had tang safety M77s from about the same time in 25-06 and .338, and they were also tack drivers.. However, I also had a tang safety M77 in 7x57 that shot PATTERNS rather than groups..

Chances are that the rifle you are considering will shoot well..Actually the least accurate .270 I have ever seen in any make or model of rifle still delivered pretty good hunting accuracy.. Most have been very accurate...

I have three of the older model 77's ,two of them are as new never fired . great gun in my opinion .

I like them. My 1980ish 30/06 shoots real well. No reason not to buy it, but as always, inspect any used gun thoroughly.

Also have an early '80's 30-06. Kinda of shoots like this at 100 yards after discovering Hornady 165 SST bullets seated .020 off the lands over 56.5g of H4350.

My first deer rifle was the old tang safety 77 in 7x57.I got it about 30 years ago and it still shoots great. If the gun's in good shape-price is right go for it.
