In it's price range you cant beat Savage.Been that way for years.

the best out of the box gun you can buy is the 700 remington for the money..must be why the us gov has been useing remington 700's for sniper rifles for a very long time...

I certainly would not use Uncle Sam as a gold standard for spending money wisely. Not a knock on Remington just an observation.

My Marlin XL7 in 30.06 will shoot with the best of them, and it was only 300 bones...

I'm not sure about the other services but the only part of the Rem 700 that the USMC uses in their M40A1 - M40A5 sniper rifles is the receiver. Any gunsmith worth their salt will tell you that the factory remington parts are crap. The only reason the USMC uses the receiver is because they're required to by contract.

Ruger No1 they don't get enough credit for being a superb accurate rifle out of the box. And for the money they are worth every penny.

Most are more accurate than most shooters are capable of shooting. Remington,Winchester,Sako,Tika,Savage,Weatherby etc. All can deliver 1" or less just pick the one you like.
