What caliber would you add?

I've always been one to only keep gun's and caliber's that I have a purpose for. So I've spent the past few years selling and trading my guns to have a gun to fit most occasions.

I'm in the mood to add something new to the collection and sell one I'm not using (it's too pretty to hunt with).

Here is my collection, I remembered them all.

Small Game
Savage 93 - .17HMR
Marlin Model 60 - .22LR

Varmit
TC Encore - 22.250

Deer & mid size game
Weatherby Mark V Ultra lightweight - .270
Browning Bar II - 30.06 (currently selling)
Weatherby Mark V Ultra lightweight - 30.06

Large Game
Weatherby Accumark - .300 WBY

Blackpowder
TC Encore - .45 Blackpowder
TC Encore - .50 Blackpowder (next one to buy for Elk)

Shotguns - Deer and Waterfowl
Savage - Single shot - .20g (was my first gun) sentamental
Winchester ? Auto - 20g (My grandfathers gun)
Remington 870 Wingmaster- 12g (up to 3" shells)
Beretta Xtrema 2 - 12g (up to 3.5" shells)
Tar-Hunt - 12g slug

What caliber (not gun) would you add next, if this was your collection?

Looking for any gaps.

garett12 07-20-2010 12:23 PM

I would think a nice 16ga would be a good one to add.

DeerandbearhoG 07-20-2010 12:48 PM

No hi cap, semi auto, 223? IMO its a must have.

Game Stalker 07-20-2010 12:54 PM

30-30 or .35 Rem.

needs_recoil 07-20-2010 01:30 PM

6.5 stw... The one gun Ill never be without.

NCZ09 07-20-2010 04:34 PM

It looks like you pretty much have the long guns covered. How about a 44 mag handgun? Maybe not your thing. Just a thought.

salukipv1 07-20-2010 05:24 PM

Not that you need one, seem to have'em covered fairly well...

maybe a 28ga?

maybe a .375H&H? or .416? or .458 Lott?

bigbulls 07-20-2010 05:30 PM

.243 or .260. on the low end

.338 or .375 on the high end.

Sheridan 07-20-2010 06:46 PM

.243 Win

.30/30 Win or .35 Rem (lever gun)

7mm RM

.338 WM

I have a spare 3-9x40 sitting in the safe. Maybe a Encore barrell for a .243 or maybe a 45-70...

hmmm:confused0024:

bigbulls 07-20-2010 07:10 PM

Maybe a Encore barrell for a .243
That's what I would do.

goatbrother 07-20-2010 08:21 PM

Perhaps something in .25 caliber?

excalibur43 07-21-2010 12:47 AM

Probably a lever action in 444,45-70 or 450 Marlin.

DougB. 07-21-2010 02:39 AM

How about a Savage '99 lever in .300 Savage? Everyone should own a lever and why not a classic?

GRIZZLYMAN 07-21-2010 09:26 AM

Rifle: 270 Win. turnbolt

Shotgun: 3 1/2" 12 ga Turkey Gun

Handgun: 40 cal. Semi-auto

That would be a good one.

Blackelk 07-21-2010 10:28 AM

I'd say get a 375 H&H and go roll a hog with it. Just for fun.

lovethebigguns 07-21-2010 10:56 AM

Another vote for something in the 444 - 45/70 range

Wolf killer 07-21-2010 12:02 PM

I would sell both rifles that are chambered in 30-06 and the blackpowder rifle in .45-caliber.

I would buy a .50-caliber blackpowder rifle & a rifle chambered in 375-H&H.

harter66 07-21-2010 12:54 PM

A revolver in 45 and 1 in .357.

+1 for a rifle in 45, .458 WM/Lott or a 45-70/90.

I would like to see a 336 in .460 S&W.

Is Marlin now making the 336 lever gun chambered in the 460 S&W?

harter66 07-21-2010 01:18 PM

Not that I know of but it seems the most likely canidate for a 65000psi cartridge having the 450 and 444 "mags"already.

See I'm not the only 1.

syrupman 07-21-2010 01:34 PM

you deffinately need a .223 AR-15

Where the .45 Colt is concerned,a Ruger would be the way to go.
Cor-Bon and Buffalo Bore make hot loads that most other frames can't handle.Loads up to 365 gr. are available.A Ruger Bisley model will help manage recoil.
(Other frames that can handle these loads are:Colt Anaconda,Freedom Arms,or Thompson Center Contender)

Sniper151 07-21-2010 02:44 PM

375 H&H Mag.

BINGO, we have a winner. If not one of these then get a 336 in .35 Rem.

gonewest 07-21-2010 07:30 PM

I would add either or all a .243 or a 6mm mag or a 25-06 just to have more to play with. Could shoot varmits or deer and antelope.

JD338 07-21-2010 07:55 PM

A fast 338 like the 338 RUM for a long range hammer and a Marlin 1895 45-70.

JD338

polaris754 07-24-2010 09:45 AM

i would start with a 243 a 308 a7 mag and last but not least a rem 300 ultra mag to top it off those should keep u happy fer awhile

The Marlin frame and barrel won't handle 65,000psi safely. With the 500S&W case in the barrel it would only leave .127" of steel surrounding a 65,000 psi cartridge.

I'll second the 375 HH.

Seaark18 08-25-2010 10:09 AM

Third for the .375

Remy25 08-25-2010 05:51 PM

I like a 375, either H&H for a little distance or (this is a crazy one), 375 winchester for brush. And also a 7mm. Cant go wrong there, 7-08 or 280. I've hunted carolina hogs up to elk with my 280. I love a 7 though, so Im a little bias.
