Lever Gun Hunters

How many of us still use lever guns? Which calibers are your
favorite and why? Have you killed trophy bucks with your
lever action rifles?

Thanks,
Boltaction

I sometimes shoot a marlin 336 chambered in 30-30. Ive taken some pigs with it but not a whole lot. I am definitely searching for a Savage model 99 to hunt with though.

I love my Marlin 336SS. Contrary to popular belief the 30-30 is all you need for deer, and in my opinion a levergun just feels good. It's also kind of nice to not get my shoulder slammed when I pull the trigger.

I've got a .32 Special Winchester as a backup gun. It's taken a few deer, but no trophies. I have taken a trophy bear in Canada with it.

I now have 5 and am probably going to be getting another hear soon. I have a browning 22 which of course I haven't got any trophies but has killed more than its fair share of squirrels. I have puma 357/38 that I bought for SASS but have killed many coyotes and a few deer with it The biggest grossed 123.5 inches. I have a 30-30 marlin that I bought when I was 14 years old. It's killed more than its fair share of good bucks and many does. The biggest was a buck grossing 140. I have a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag that I bought for Indiana deer hunting. It's already killed quite a few coyotes and one big buck that score 147.5. I just booked a canadian bear hunt and bought a marlin guide gun in 45/70. So far she kicks pretty good and loves custom loads.

Why shoot lever actions? Their shorter, slimmer, and off a very quick follow up shot. I have my bolt action but if hunting deep cover, which I often do, I gotta go for a lever action.

Older Win 94 (1957) in .32 Win Spl. It will get the job done.

I use my Win 94 30-30. Have shot a few whitetails and got my first bull elk with it.

If I lived in a rifle deer state, it would be the marlin .30-30, oh I wish I lived in a rifle state somedays...

May use it for a MI black bear hunt in the near future, or a cougar hunt.

Off the top of my head I think the only 2 levers I'd want would be a .30-30, and a .45-70, almost forgot my .22lr lever! I'm a cowboy! haha.

Of course Browning has that BLR which you can chamber in just about anything I think, 25-06, etc...

I've taken a good bit of game with a 30/30. Win. and Marlin.

I bought a Marlin 336 35 Rem and marlin 1894 .357, hoping to take a deer with at least one of them. I am also hoping my 8 year old son takes a deer with the .357:-)
