Ideal scope for .375H&H??

Even though the Swarovski Z6 may have the most range, spending $2k on a rifle scope probably won't happen.

Aside from dangerous game up close and personal, I could see maybe using this rifle for sitka blacktail on kodiask island, with maybe the longest shot being 300yds, so a scope that could make a 300yd shot would be nice, but I'm thinking lower power would be better than too high.

Anyone know how long a long shot at a sitka deer would be on kodiak? or what's typical perhaps? I'd assume you could get within 300yds? what's the longest shot you've heard of with the .375H&H? I really couldn't see a shot past 300yds, though I assume someone out there has probably shot 400yds perhaps?

Sitka Blacktail will certainly happen before brown bear...less I run into "bald headed bear of claire county, haha, The great outdoors"

Wondering if 2.5x is low enough, or if 1.5/1.75x is even better, course then you're looking at 5/6x vs. 8/10x on the high end?

I voted for the Z6 1-6. It would be my first choice too, but I completely agree that $2k is too much for any scope. You should be able to find a non-illuminated Z6 for around $1400+/-, but I just bought two Swarovski 1.25-4x24mm illuminated scopes for under $1500. They are first focal plane but are great scopes.

I also have a Z6i 1.7-10, and it is my favorite scope of any I have ever owned.

If you want an "economy" scope, I have been using a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5 illuminated on my hog rifle for a few years now, and it is a great low light scope for the money.

You know you don't need a .375 H&H for Sitka deer.

Don't you have a 30 caliber already ?

If you really want a big bore why not look at that 416 Rem Mag (Modern day .375 H&H or 416 Rigby).

Buy one of those high end scopes and put it on one of the rifles you will use more often !!!

Well the big bore dream list currently is; .375H&H, .416 Rigby, .458 Lott, plan to get a 375, eventually the Lott, not sure about a .416/rigby ever, but more than likely the other 2 at some point.

I know sitka outfitters etc...say take anything over .243 will do....do have a concern about running into a kodiak brownie, and certainly would rather have a .375 over a .300 or .243, I will eventually own a .375H&H. and not worried about overkill/meat damage from a .375.

Could see myself going after sitka blacktails in a couple years or so...

decisions decisions??

Just got a .338 Win Mag for those Brownie's, even if I think I'm only elk hunting !

The .416 Remington will surely become the brown bear cartridge by which all others are compared.

If I were buying a dangerous game scope it would be variable that has a magnification of 1 power on the low end for both eyes open shooting and the absolute quickest target acquisition possible.

IMO the Trijicon TR24G is about a perfect DG scope as I would want.

Vortex Viper 2-7 X 32 with C3 reticle. Good glass, light weight, very functionable, won't break the bank and GREAT customer service. Can be had for around $260.00.

My current .375 H&H has a Leupold 2.5x8 sitting on it, and it seems to be a very nice power range. Previously I had a Leupold 1.5x5 on one, but rarely fired at game with the lowest power setting (although I always carried it that way). The higher power is very useful for plains game, and the Leupolds are very rugged. The 2.5 power has worked well for me on cape buffalo, and if the brush/grass is extremely thick I can remove the scope. Recoil from a full power .375 load makes a guy appreciate long eye relief, and it is a scope killer. I see quite a few Swarovski scopes on .375 rifles, and they are great, but some guys like me would rather put the extra $1,500 into the hunt rather than the scope.
I would not scope any rifle larger than a .375.
