ive always been a savage type guy.im married w/2 teenage daughters so im poor.im curiuos about the vanguard 243,im gonna get one just wondered how it stacks up against a savage.not even interested in a remington

im extremely intrigued by ur thread i myself am a big savage fan & i have a lil experience wit da weat. vaguard every 1 dat i have shot is a tack driver anybody can say that there gun drives tacks but im being dead honest theres only 1 other bolt action dat i would own other den my trusty ol savage & da weatherby vanguard would be dat 1 even with factory ammo ive never been dissapointed by either
& your rite bout rems ive had several & they totaly suck thats y i dont own 1 anymore & prolly never will

im thinking of just stickin with a savage they are easy to werk on

I priced the Weatherby's also....$399.99 and You will probably only get it in a synthetic stock,I priced a Savage 7mm-08 with the Accu-trigger in a nice wood grain in a bolt-action for $500.00.I'm probably going to go with the Savage because I have heard so many good things about them.I already have a Browning A-bolt Hunter in a .243 with the wood stock and matte black barrel and it shoots great,just want a Savage to add to my collection!


If You do get the Weatherby tells us how it shoots and what You like about it over a Savage...You may change my mind before I spend the extra $100.00 on a Savage.

I believe they're building rifles using a savage action, you get your pick of stock...caliber, barrel is an ershaw to your specs for I think $625...

a vanguard or howa is an excellent rifle. Triggers could be better but other than that they are good guns. Keep in mind savages are american made, the vanguard and howa's are japs. Nothing wrong with that I own both. Come to think of it though, none of them have factory barrels on them, my oldest howa was a 308 for probably 20 years and a couple of years ago I decided the barrel was shot out so I changed it.

im in the process to order a 26inch barrel for my savage 30-06.its cheaper and i just really like the old girl.i figger i shoud be able to hit a little further out.thinking about a savage 243 and do the same

The .243 and .30-06 have no use for a 26" barrel IMO. Are you set on 26"?

22-24" in either is more than ideal.

Weight for weight I'd rather have a shorter stiffer 22-24" barrel on either than a 26"'

a 24 in would work fine,i hunt the desert and am getting old but your probably right.i checked out some barrel builders and they said 24 is all i should go and they know more than me for sure.i would like a longer maybe 26in for my 22-250.that burns country is open and my favorite place.

in all honestly dats what i would do they really are great guns & the accutrigger is very simple to adjust. i have a .243 & it will shoot 1 inch groups in da bull all day long with fact. ammo horn. btsp 100 grains

I traded for vanguard in 22-250 a while back and really like it. It is little picky on ammo and a little on the bulky side. But I like the adjustable trigger and would recommend it. I also have 3 savages right now and have had 3 or 4 others.

Got to shoot my uncle's Vanguard a few weeks back. Was a pretty good rifle, and shot well. The thing I liked about over Savage rifles was it doesn't have an Accutrigger.
