What's your favorite .300 Magnum?

What's your favorite/the best .300 Magnum?
Sorry, have to pick a magnum, no .30-06 or .308, etc...

Which do you think will still be popular in 20 years? which will fail?

I was surprised to learn the .30-378wby passed the 300wby for their #1 seller. (in ammo sales)

YOU FORGOT THE BEST ONE....the 300SAUM...just work with one for awhile and you'll see this one didn't get treated right..it is amazing!!

.300 Win Mag

Hard to beat a flat shooting classic cartridge with that much knockdown power IMO !

CommonSense 06-08-2010 10:55 AM

I voted for the .300 Win Mag, I feel instead of going with more speed (like the .300 Wby of .30-378) I would rather go up in bullet diameter, to me the .300 Win Mag just makes the most sense.

Out of the ones that you listed I would probably choose the .300 win mag. It's my understanding that on paper a lot of these calibers look similar, but the newer calibers are loaded to maximum pressures, whereas the win mag is an older cartridge that is kept to lower pressures in factory loads. If you reload and you have a new gun, there is room for improvement with this round. I know that it would be a different situation if I lived in a place where long shots are the norm, I'd have to make a point of practicing at long range. I've never had to worry about long shots and I know that I have no business shooting beyond 200 yards. Personally, if I needed a cartridge with more energy than my 30-06, I'd get a larger diameter cartridge.

I voted for the 300-win mag because, my 300-win mag has never let me down.

I voted for the 300 ultra mag because of the ballistics. However, I can't afford to shoot it anymore and I'm shooting a 30.06. I'm looking at getting a 300 win mag because the price of ammo is half the price of 300 ultra mag. What good is a rifle if you can't afford the ammo to shoot a bunch? That's why I am really enjoying shooting my 30.06.

I'll be glad when the economy gets back to where it was. If the economy doesn't come back, then I have a life time supply of 30.06, .243 and 20 gauge ammo.

.300 Win mag for sure.

Yeah 300 RUM ammo has gone stupid with pricing it seems. Have you considered what I did and start reloading for it? I saved all of my rifle brass for years, so you can imagine the hundreds of cases I have in 7mm mag and 300RUM. I'll eventually have to get more brass but in the meantime, its alot cheaper!

Doe Dumper 06-10-2010 08:09 AM

Best .300 hands down is the .300 Salvage.

gregrn43 06-10-2010 08:18 PM

I reckon I would have to vote for the 30 win mag since its the only one I own

Even if I had the time to reload, I wouldn't like it. I know some folks like it but it's not for me. I have helped some of my buddies reload from time to time. I like shooting their ammo, I just don't enjoy the work. Just like some guys like working on cars and others don't. I'd rather take an ass whooping than change the oil on my truck.:)

vadeerkiller 06-11-2010 08:44 AM

I have a 300 RUM but don't get to shoot it much because of the ammo price.

Bible_Man 06-11-2010 11:48 AM

I love my .300 WBY...shoots great, plenty of knockdown in this continent, speed galore!
Shells are a little on the high side, but they do the job.

skeeter 7MM 06-11-2010 11:56 PM

No contest the 300 wm. Not saying others on the list aren't good, but the win mag is by far the most succesful 300 mag cartridge. I don't see that changing anytime soon!

skiking 06-13-2010 02:13 PM

300 Win Mag.

Ruger-Redhawk 06-15-2010 09:36 AM

300 win mag. It's been doing a fine job for a long time. Ammo is easy to find if you run short and you need it now..

stevem63 06-16-2010 02:01 AM

300 win mag just because you can walk into any shop and get ammo cheap

BowyerNADE 06-19-2010 09:56 AM

I vote for the 300WSM simply because thats the only 300 magnum i have had the pleasure of shooting, i am sure i would feel different (or not) if i owned and or hunted with any other of the 300's but my 300WSM is the proverbial antler assassin. working the bolt on my 300WSM for a follow-up shot is lightning fast, it seems to be much faster than a 270 winchester (long action)

A11en 06-20-2010 02:58 AM

I too prefer the 300 WSM. It does everything the 300 Win mag does (and more with some factory ammo) with less recoil.
