BAR Safari 30-06
Ok,after going back and forth between 30-06 vs 7mm,semi auto vs bolt action, ive decided i want a 30-06 semi auto. Is this rifle accurate and powerful enough to cleanly kill deer at 200 yards? Im looking at buying one new. Is this a good choice?

A BAR is an excellent choice for a semi-auto. And, that rifle and the 30-06 is accurate to hit a deer and powerful enough to cleanly kill a moose at 200 yd.

My BAR in 270 shoots great, but I'd take a bolt action anyday! They're not light! Is the bar safari still made in belgium?
hard to go wrong with the 30/06, but I'd say get a bolt action! |
I have owned a few Browning semi-auto's over the years. And they were all nice rifles. One was a high grade Belgium model, and it was a real dandy.
As far as accuracy is concerned. Well they were more than capable of hunting accuracy. But they were not what I would consider as an accurate rifle. They will not compete with a bolt action. But that is not what they were designed to do. For a hunting rifle they are a great choice. But not for an accurate rifle. Tom. |
2'' or 3'' groups @ 100 yards is perfectly fine for deer hunting accuracy lol! I dont expect sub-MOA groups, cuz it'll be used as only a deer hunting rifle.

Now I've also read quite a few reports of people getting sub moa accuracy, but then again I've read a ton more reports of 2-3" groups at 100 yards like mine. From what I've read that seems to be more the average than one shooting sub moa groups. |
