Mossberg 535 slug/scope combo questions
 

I found a rifled slug barrel on Walmart's website that comes with a Bushnell 3-9 x 32 scope for $170 to fit my 535 turkey killer. I know that it won't be a great scope, but I could replace it next year if I don't like it. The reviews on their website were good, but I was wondering if any of you had purchased this combo. Other stores feature this same barrel with other low grade scopes, but none match this price. Also, I can get it shipped to my local store and pay no shipping.

It should work fine. A friend of mine bought a combo for his 835, and it shoots pretty well. The scope is nothing to brag about but it does work.

You might consider getting just the barrel and buying a different scope, if you really think you'll upgrade anyway.

Recoil is quite stout w/ 12ga slugs, 3.5"+eye relief and sturdy construction is critical. steel rings are a good idea too. Id shop around for a good deal on a candeliver mount slug barrel alone, and buy a bushnell trophy(about 90$) separate , I know for a fact that scope will hold up, and ER is adaquate. Thats is the cheapest, cheap scope I would get for a 12ga.

One thing I'll add about sabot slugs, is more expensive does not necessarily mean they are better. You need to find a slug that works with the rate of twist in the barrel.

I shoot 2.75" Brenneke KO Sabot slugs and they are awesome on deer. My gun shoots Win. Super X in 2.75" and 3" BRI-type sabots really well too. If I try to shoot a slug with a velocity over 1600 fps, accuracy goes south.

So, just because your gun can take a 3.5" shell does not mean you must use one. I'd stay with 3" shells.
