I chose a 116 Weather warrior in 06. I could not decide between the 308, 06 and 270 for the longest time but settled on the 06. The cost of ammo is the same for all three but the 06 offers greater terminal performance, greater ammo options, and the recoil is very managable even from the bench.
My 116 shoots nearly everything less than 1 1/2" and some handloads are as low a 3/8" on calm days.
I have taken elk with great results and with handloads the 06 is real step up from the 308.
