A Question of Fashion!

Maybe I should make this a " Poll" !?:D Just a stupid question to liven things up a bit (and to possibly keep me from making a dippy looking purchase!;))

Stainless matte barrell and action.........Black matte synthetic stock........(here' s the tricky part)....stainless matte rings.

What color scope would you choose?

1. BLACK matte
2. SILVER matte

(To be specific I have a new Ruger 77RFP All weather with a Zeiss Conquest topper planned in the works.........might as well make her look as good as possible right?:))

Sorry to say that I hate stainless guns. However if I had to have one I would go Black scope. Dull finish.

Whatever best matches the rims on your Cadillac Escalade. I would go with a gold finish to match my chains and the trim on my bling-bling mobile.:D

On the other hand, Hntngirl has better taste than I do;)

I' d go with the silver scope, but a lot depends upon the outfit you' re wearing that day. My skin tones look better with the Realtree Hardwoods camo or anything in a nice peach or salmon color. Of course shoes make the outfit! When I hunt in my red or pink hunting boots, I normally carry a matching rifle.

Seriously I don' t see where it makes a darn. Pick whatever you like.

A buddy of mine has the same gun with a matte black leupold. Looks nice. Gives a nice contrast to the rings.

I think the black scope would look much more manly, no question.

I was going through the same dilema with my muzzleloader. Stainless with black synthetic stock. I looked the silver scopes, rings and bases, but none of them matched the barrel. They say the silver will not reflect light, but it does. I went with the black matte scope, rings and bases.

I have experience with this one! My dad and I own the same guns, with the same scopes - but his scope is silver, mine is black. My scope looks better, hands down. My dad complains about his big silver scope alllll the time - black matte' s the only way to go!

I' ve got the stainless barrel, stainless rings, black stock, and a nikon black matte scope that really looks awsome on the gun. I wouldn' t change it.

I have one Ruger all weather with a silver scope and one with a matte scope . I like the Matte and siver rings better . The stainless silver combo looks kind of wimpy to me .LOL:D:D

You gonna hunt with the thing or date it????

I' m not one to go after an asthetically pleasing weapon. I like em to be practical. I personally think that black scopes look better on stainless guns.

Either will work and looks fine. Whatever trips your trigger.I have a matte silver on my Ruger M77 " All Weather" .

Definetly get the black scope. I' d also go for matte black rings. Look at both before you buy the rings.

BLACK!!!! ive seen guns like that and the other way.....i like the way nothing matches but it all blends nicely.......if my barrel was silver the rings would be black and the cope would be silver or like you silver barrel and rings and a black scope.........thats just me

I have a Black Matte scope with silver matte rings on my silver matte blackpowder Traditions rifle. Looks pretty good. But my choice was made by what I had available.

When your at the hunting cabin, stand in front of the mirror and asked your buddies." does this Realtree coat make me look fat" ?;) Real men wear black.

Thanks for all the input........serious and otherwise.;):D I know its not a fashion show, but I don' t want to look like the girl wearing white shoes after Labor Day either!

Upon further review I went with the audience and bought the Black Matte scope........I cheaped out just a bit and went with a 3-9X40 Nikon " Monarch" over the Zeiss. I think I am going to be very happy with it nonetheless. Both VERY nice scopes, I just couldn' t see the Zeiss as $100 nicer.

Thanks again for all the votes.[:-]

RE: A Question of Fashion!

I dont think it' s a fashion statement. I have several stainless rifles for their ability to weather harsh enviroments and to have slightly better wear than the chrome moly barrels. The silver finish (clear anodizing) on scopes offer nothing over the black models. So I install the ugly black matte one' s on my rifles.

Here are a few examples......

a boat paddle Ruger 77MK II SS in 280 Rem topped with a Leupold VariX III 4.5x14x50

Remington 40 XBKS SS action/barrel topped with a Leupold VariX III 8.5x25x50 LR

Remington Custom 700 blued action Hart 32" SS barrel wearing a Leupold VariX III 6.5x20x50

They certainly are not pretty, but they are working rifles, :)AA

RE: A Question of Fashion!

I think you might be referring to a rifle that I have setup in a similiar (or same way). As you can see, the Leupold rings are stainless, only because they were selling cheaper than the matte one' s at Wal-Mart.:D At first, I thought it looked tacky, but I' ve grown used to it. But I' m glad that I settled on the matte-finished Leupold scope than getting the silver finish that I had originally planned.

And here is how she shoots.[8D]
