Thanks for the responces guys. It really has helped me out. I think it will come down to which caliber that I can find the gun I want in since there seems to be little difference in recoil. Thanks agian.

Just shot my first 260 this weekend. Rem Model 7 with 18 1/2 inch barrel. It had a little barrel whip but very light recoil. I then shot my Win 70 Featherweight in 7mm 08, definitely more recoil.

But remember, the 7mm is a very managable round.

RE: 260 rem vs 7mm08 in recoil?

the recoil between the both is about the same , granted my 7mm-08 is in the mountain rifle and my .260 is in the earlier model seven with the 18 1/2 " barrel ( which is the only thing i don' t like about this rifle ), so there' s a small difference if any on recoil there.

call me the oddball , but i preferr the .260, and as broey said you can use it on smaller game with lighter loads , in my opinion the 7mm-08 is to close to the .308 but , i also don' t like the rifle that i' ve got it in , as it' s the mountain rifle dm , with the noisy tinny sounding clip, which might have a little bearing on my decision there

another strange thing that i' ve seen firsthand is that the .260 that i' ve got shoots more accurately than the 7mm-08 i' ve got even though the 7mm ' s barrel is 3 1/2 " longer , i don' t know , maybe the rifle i' ve got just isn' t a shooter , i' ve heard others are very accurate. :D just my input from what i' ve experienced with my rifles :D:D

Not much difference between the two, but the .260 Rem is slightly less, and it is noticeable to someone with a bad shoulder, such as myself.

RE: 260 rem vs 7mm08 in recoil?

I have an uncle who shoots everything up to and including moose with an old (I belive) rem 788 in 7mm08. He routinely points out that it' s not how much gun you have but where you put the bullet. My boss is also a die-hard 7mm08 fan. And unfortunatly, won' t have anything to do with any 6.5. The 260 has been around for about 6 years now, but I personaly have not heard a bad thing about it. One thing to consider is various weights and types of bullets available. There are far more options as far as the 7mm Dia. is concerend
