RE: need help finding gun specs

If you are into reloading go with the 45-70. In the marlin with hand loads it will blow the .450 into the weeds. The reason for the .450 was to increase power over factory 45-70 ammo with out having somthing that some yoyo would be able to stuff in their Trap door Springfield. If you look in a loading manual you will find that most list loads for the Marlin in a different section and these loads are substanitally hotter then the loads for original rifles. If these loads were fired in a Trapdoor Springfield it would in all probability blow up the gun.

I have shot some very, very stout handloads in the Ruger#1 .45/70. I think these are even unsafe for the Marlins.

For you bigbore fans check out www.buffalobore.com

i used to own a 1895M chambered in the 450marlin. my good buddy just bought a marlin chabered in 45-70 last season. i would go with the 45-70 just because the selection of amo out there.
the 350gr. hronady bullets did not shoot well out of my gun no matter how i shot it. i think it was something like 4- 5"
