1954 marlin 30-30 or 1964 marlin 35mm?
A friend is selling and I cant decide which of the 2 marlins to choose. I like the history behind both rounds, but there is something likeable about that lil 20 in. barrel on the 35mm. Off our shooting lanes can get snarly, so when we are tracking other people's deer ;) the 35 with its small size and slight increase in power seems the ideal, but I've always wanted a 30-30 so i'm torn.....

I assume you meant 35 cal. A 35 caliber will have more energy than a 30-30. Given the choice, I think the .35 is a better cartridge. They even make chamber adapters to allow you to shoot a .38 pistol cartridge in a 35. Same diameter, believe it or not.

Yep, a 35mm surely would be a fine deer and hog killer.:s4:
Think that you mean .35 Remington. Either rifle would be a good deer gun-its a toss up. |
Don't think I've ever heard of a 35mm. Is is a camera?

I've always liked the 35 Rem better than the 30-30. For close range work I prefer bigger, heavier bullets if I have a choice.
|
I have both and about the same age. Either one will work fine for you. The .35 Remington will shoot a 200 grain bullet and the largest the .30/30 uses is a 170. The deer really wouldn't know the difference. I pretty much just use whichever one is easiest to grab.

I own a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. Good round!! But here's a little food for thought,in my neck of the woods .35's are going for $28 a box 30 30's are $18 a box. The 30 30's are readily availible, the .35's are getting harder to find.I've owned both calibers & to be honest with you the both killed deer very dead.IMO half a dozen of one 6 of the other.

I'm not to familiar with a 35, but the .30-30 is still rockin on!
So less that .35 is in a factory cartridge currently loaded, I'd get that .30-30, either way I'd probably get the .30-30. |
I'd stick with the 35 if I had to choose between them but heck get them both. Good luck with your decision

yeah..lol 35 rem.. i had had a few ****tails.. I checked the price of ammo here in MN. and the diff is only $4 a box. Think i'll take the 35..thanks for all the tips! I've only hunted for 5 yrs.
