Buying actions.
 

I am two weeks into gunsmithing school. We are going to be building a wood stock and a synthetic stock. We can only order one action and barrel from the school that is paid for with our tuition. The other we have to ether get ourselvs or pay the scho for it up front and they will order it. I want to put a 7mm-08 on the synthetic stock for my son but I need a action and barrel.

My question is where should I look to find an action. I know gun shows when they are in town. What sites on the net have a good reputatiun of having quality used and new actions or any mail order companies.

I know Charles Daly sells both actions and barrelled actions. Sorry, I don' t know the website or cost but they should be inexpensive.

i know , it' s off topic for the question but i' de really like to know :D:D:D

as for the question , i think you should first find out if it' s a part that they' ll sell to you first , i know looking at my owners manual that some parts they won' t ship because they have to do the assembly themselves ( like barrel installations for example ) if your not allready a gunsmith or have a FFL . what does your school have to offer to you in the line of barrels and actions anyway ? you might be able to get something from/through them with less hassell and red tape and still have a quality high grade part. :D:D:D:D

I' m going to Colorado School of Trades.

As for the school I can get Howa, Savage, or Mauser actions. I was kind of hoping to find a used one in good shape for a bit less money. Like a pre 64 M70 or even a post 64 push feed or a used Mauser 98. I am building the first one on a Howa action but they only come barreled so I am replacing the barrel. The actions the school orders are new. If I have to order something I will just have it shipped to the school. We use the schools FFL while we are attending.

For barrels they use Douglas and Schillen (sp).

I a still trying to figure out the whole process of getting parts, actions, barrels, etc.... We are pretty busy in these first few weeks.

P.S. , not to sound stupid but , do they offer correspondence courses in gunsmithing like thompson learning direct ( formerly harcourt learning direct , formerly ics ) or nri correspondence schools ? :D

They do not offer any kind of correspondance courses. 90% of what they teach is actual hands on training. That' s one of the first things they told us was that you can' t learn how to operate a lathe or mill from home.

Charles Daily has short actions for the 7-08......and I' d be very trusting of them.....

They' re controlled round feeding of a Mauser action.
