KBI O/U: both barrels went off
 

I'm selling some guns for the family of a recently-deceased friend. I test-fire everything before putting it up for sale, just so I know. Anyway, one of the pieces is a KBI (made in Russia by Baikal, I believe) O/U 12 ga., single trigger. I'm not real familiar with O/Us, but knew that some have barrel selectors. Saw no selector and figured it must just go to the second barrel after the first has discharged. Well, both went off at the same time. I do know THAT'S not supposed to happen.

Anyone know anything about these things, i.e. is this something I, with my minimal 'smithing skills, should be able to fix?

Any help would be appreciated.

The locks on O/U shotguns are pretty complicated, as we're not just talking about a simple hammer to trigger sear arrangement. If you're not sure if you can fix it properly, I'd strongly suggest you take it to a gunsmith.

Take it to a smith, don't create a liability for yourself. We had one do that when I was a kid, as a result my first experience shooting a 12-gauge was most unpleasant. As I recall it was not an expensive fix.

my buddy has a SBS that will do that if you put the selector in the middle

IMO, some guns should be thrown away. This is one of them.
Cost to fix will be on the high side and your talking about a $300 junker when new. What could you possibly sell it for that would even justify a$100 smith bill? The real danger it poses to users
and the temptation it will pose to someone to use it as is w/o fixing is too great. Destroy it and you will make the world a safer place. just an opinion. take care.
