semi 22
Recently at a friends camp for a boys weekend, just riding, shooting, playing poker etc.
A friend had a tube mag semi 22 and I couldn't get over how fun it was to shoot.
A have a quality bolt 22, and a 22 in a combo so all I'm really looking for is cheap and fun.

Any recommendations, or anything I should just plain avoid because I'm looking on the used gun racks, won't buy new unless its a real bargain.

As much as I LOVE 10/22's , if you're looking for a very inexpensive semi-auto .22, check for a used Marlin Model 60.

X2 on the Marlin 60! I had a Glenfield 60 years ago, its the same as the Marlin and for the money it was an accurate little gun!

Ruger 10/22, 25 round magazine, 22 hollow points, field full of cow pies. You do the math.

Marlin 60 works. Though the 10/22 is hard to beat

I always say used guns are a good value, but at the same time I think you always take a bit of a chance with a used semi-auto. I've had problems with the Marlin Mod. 60, and others. In some instances you can say the same about a NEW one. My first SA .22 was a Rem. Mod. 552, NIB. Jammed all the time.

If you buy used, get it from someone you can find if it turns out to be a dud.

I've never fired the Marlin 795, but have given a bunch away as door prizes at gun shows. I think it retails for about $140, and right now Marlin has a $25 rebate.

I've got a used Win. Mod. 290 up on gunbroker, with a scope. Test fired fine. Check it out, I'm user USMC1978.

This weekend Cabelas is selling a Marlin 795 .22lr for $99 US after rebate. It's basically a Model 60 in composite stock and with a box mag instead of a tubular mag. Not bad for a new gun. I don't know where you can find a similar deal in Canada though.

My vote goes for the Marlin 60. Just bought one off the consignment rack at work about a month ago. I was there when the guy brought it in and he said he might have shot at the most 50 rounds through it. I have since then put over 1000 rounds through it and its the funnest gun i have ever shot. Only paid $100 for it and it was spotless. no scratches or anything. Its accurate enough that i started doing trick shooting with it. shooting coins and charcoal brickettes out of the air and even shot 5 or 6 playing cards in half on edge with it before i even emptied the 14round tube mag from about 15 yards away. all of this was done with open sights and i plan on leaving it that way. Model 60s are cheaper than a 10/22 most of the time and you dont have to blister your fingers when shooting for a long time at the range reloading magazines.
