+1. The 770's are garbage. It's definitely in your best interest to hold out for a 700.

Survey says.... Run, run far away as you can from that pos. For the same money you can by a Marlin or a Mossberg which are better guns than the 710/770 by far. You will find some who got suckered into buying one defending, but the sad truth is that it is a better paper weight or door stop than a gun.

Save a couple more hundred dollars and get the Remington 700. You will be much happier. Like the others said.

The Model 770 is about as minimal as you can get in every way ... design, looks, materials, fit and finish, etc. I'd refer to it as an "accoountant's rifle" because it sure as heck is not a rifleman's rifle. There is nothing "beautiful" about the looks. Will it shoot? Sure. I've helped sight in 2. Both shot fine. But there is absolutely no comparison between the Mod. 770 and Model 700 ... or similarly priced mass produced rifles. Save a couple of hundred $'s and buy a better built rifle. You'll be glad you did.

I owned a 770 .270. They are not as bad as everyone says as the couple 3-4 boxes I planned on putting through it a year who have held fine. Yes it fired and would put down a deer. Now that being said I happened into a deal where a guy need to get rid of his .270 model 700! Like others have said quality and durability no comparisons and lets just say I am now the proud owner of a model 700 .270 BDL. But again if you want something to take into woods kill a deer and not worry about banging it on some trees 770 is fine. But if you want a weapon to pass on to grandson's grandsons save your money for a 700! But is your money and I just wanted to share my experiences with BOTH models.

Get a Marlin xl7... better accuracy, smoother action, and better rifle overall... I love mine... both of them...

You can buy a used ADL for the same price, picked one up last year at the gun show and shes a tack driver. $425 out the door. Just saw two more in a gunshop in savannah ga for $375 all in .270 win.
