New Gun!!!!
 

My 7 year old boy is really taking a shine to hunting. He's already got an archery buck and an exotic ram. This May he will hunt turkey for the first time. But....none of our family shotguns fit him right except for the little 410.

Solution? New gun!!!!

I got him a Rossi Youth Pair. It comes with a 20ga barrel and a 22LR barrel. It fits him perfectly and I think it will be fun for dad to shoot as well :D

Anyone have this gun?

I bought one when my son started out. I would recommend installing a Limbsaver recoil pad on it. With the 20ga. has a quiet a bit of recoil.

Yeah, we shot a 3" magnum out of it yesterday. It was pretty stiff :D

I'm looking at recoil pads. We'll also do most of our practicing with the low brass skeet loads. Big stuff only for turkey hunting.

Recommend pachmayr (or limbsaver).

Practice with light loads first before patterning turkey loads.


7 year old, good for you (and good for him !).

I have a Kick-Eez on my 300 Weatherby and it cushions it nicely.

Only problem is the butt of this shotgun is much smaller than most recoil pads. I'd need to trim it down quite a bit.

It also has a 22 barrel that we can practice with quite a bit to get use to aiming the gun. No recoil and easier on the wallet.

For a 7 year old I would recommend a 28 gauge cause I tell you with a 20 gauge the kid will fly 6 feet. Or you could use a .22 but hell need to be a little more precise and the danger is a bit greater

The 20ga might seem a bit heavy for him but he's pretty recoil proof. He hunted last year with a 308 Win and shoots a 30-06 from the bench quite well.

I started him off with a 410 when he was 6 and he used that for squirrels. A gobbler will need a little more oomph, I think.

28ga shotguns are a lot harder to find.

You have the best excuse to go out and buy any firearm you desire. You can tell your wife that you needed to buy your son "this new rifle, shotgun or pistol because he has to have it" for the up and coming hunting season.
