varmit gun ???
 

im looking to get a coyote gun but im not very rifle savy . i have always used a 22 250 but it was barrowed from a buddy and im guna buy my own what calibers and styles do you guys recomend . plus has anobody used the nikon coyote special scope if so what do you think about it . (got a 1000 budget for rifle and scope) . any help would be great

What distances will you shoot at? Will it ever be used for deer hunting? Will you walk around alot with it or just sit? Do you reload? How many rounds a year will you shoot?

My first thought was a savage or a weatherby vanguard in 22-250 or .243 (if deer is ever in the equation) topped with a burris ffII 4-14x42 with ballistic plex and a harris bipod. Scope could also be a Bushnell 3200 or 4200, Nikon Monarch, or a used Leupold or Ziess. I would go 3-9x40 with a sporter barrel and 4-12 or 4-14 with a heavier contour barrel. If you plan on shooting a lot and ranges will be no more than 300 yds on game, a .223 might be the one you like.

Rifle $400-500 with tax, shipping, etc
Scope $200-350
Mounts $50
Bipod $50-75
Sling $25

Equals $725-1000

I would get myself a .243 instead.. it'll whack a coyote just the same as the .22 cals and give you alot more power than it's smaller cousin plus you can shoot a deer with it if you'd like. A Leupold 3x9 will fit just right and give you just enough to drill them yoters.

it wont ever be used for anythin but dogs and i dont shoot that much shots would be pry 300 max . i will just be sittin and callin

22-250 or .223

Certainly nothing wrong with the 22-250 you've been using.Other cals to consider- .204 Ruger, .222, .223, see lots of use.You can use most anything really.If you want to save the fur stick with those listed.Most anything larger will tear'em up.Any of the popular brands of guns and models will work fine.Myself I'd look at CZ and Savage.Both offer great shooters at reasonable cost. For close range (within 50 yds or so) a 10 or 12 gauge will work well but you'll need to do some pattern testing with various loads/chokes to find what works best in your gun.

A good quality .223 bolt action rifle and a trigger job should run at least half of your budget, and a very usable 4.5X14x40 scope will cost about $300-$400. Avoid the "bargin" brands and you will be much happier in the long run. Something like a Nikon or Bushnell on top of a Remington 700 ADL would make a fine rig.

is there a big difference between the 22 250 and the 223 , (im a bow guy never even owned a rifle b4 so i dont know anythin about them )

.223 Rem. all the way in that case! Just for dogs under 300yds...cheaper, quieter,

maybe checkout a Savage...
...or a weatherby vanguard, both have full camo models...
