Winchester or savage

Winchester or Savage and why?
Explain your opinion.

Looking at a short action Model 70 Win. and/or Model 116 Savage.
Thanks...

Not real familiar with savages but I do know winchester isnt what they used to be and youre payin for what they used to be. I hear good things bout savage from my pardners so my vote is for the savage.

If you are looking at short actions in the Savages', you need to look at the ones with two digit numbers. In your case the Model 16 is a short action stainless steel.

Something tells me that accuracy wise they'll be about the same. The Winchester would be a finer rifle from a fit and finish perspective and likely hold it's value better.

In my opinion, it's an apples an oranges comparison. The cost difference on a percent basis is quite large.

I have both. I like both, but the Winny is just a nicer gun. The action is way more smooth. Accuracy is good on both. The winny will cost more but i am considering another one as well.

I'll take the Win. any day.

I know the Savage line now has an outstanding reputation for accuracy and trigger pull, but I recently handled both the Savage and new Winchester Model 70. I was very impressed with the 70s outstanding finish and wood to metal finish , flawless checkering and buttery smooth action. The magazine reviews have been very favorable. I want one in a .308 (short action), but it will be a while. Locally they had the 70 on sale for about 699.00 as I recall.
