Whch factory does your rifle shoot best.
My Ruger M77 270 1moa with 130 remington core locs
My own brand. I reload for all my guns.
My 2 favorites are: 7mm Rem Mag likes 150grn Sierra GameKings .223 like Sierra 55gr BlitzKings |
Rem 700 loves rem 150gr core lokts. Ive only shot federal and winchester in the same grain, so I can only compare to those.

From my experience, the pointier the soft-point (inexpensive ammo), the better balanced, and more accurate it will shoot. 130'swill group a little tighter than 150 grain soft-points, from any manufacturer. |
Anything with SOME quality is worth a try for factory. I've had wolf gold shoot great, and I've also had more expensive Federals and hornady shoot great. But none of them can roll with a handload :D
I shoot handloads but most of my rifles shot Remington Cor-Lokts the best when I shot factory. Except my M700 in 25-06. I would only shoot Winchester 120gr PEPs well. But it shot them into 1/2" groups. Go figure.
My M700 .243 Win really likes Hornady Light Mag 100 gr BTSP and Winchester Super-X 80 gr PSP, so much in fact that they both shoot better than my handloads, but to me, shrinking my groups from .4" groups to .3" groups @ 100 yds isn't worth paying 2 or 3 times as much per round.
my model 700 .270 win shoots hornady light mag 140 at moa, and remington scirocco 130 at almost moa.
my 700 in 243 likes rem core lokt or win super x(1 1/2'' groups, good enough for deer hunt n)
My 700 XCR in 270wsm shoots Winchester Supremes well.
My Savage 110 308 doesn't care everything I feed it goes 2" or less even the nato service mil surp. My 110 30-06' I guess 200 rn Winchesters 8" was the best factory group ever . 150 spbt Hornady in LC43 over 4350 puts 5 just showing around a quarter .
Both of my hunting guns (.308 & 7MM RM) love Core-Locts!
my .243 likes 58 gr hornady vmax alot
Savage M110 7mmRM...Winchester 150 grain BST (0.5") and Federal 160 grain NP (0.75").
Savage M116 270 Winchester...Federal 130 grain Hi-shok (1") and Winchester 130 grain Silvertips (1.25") Remington 742 .30-06...Remington 180 grain PSP-CL (1.5") Remington 7400 .270 Winchester...all are around 2" (have not found a really accurate round yet) |
7mm mag loves the 140 core lokt
44 mag love 240 grain rem ammo |
Factory ammo-7x57 shot best with Rem 175gr and .280 with Fed 150gr.Both are Ruger bolt guns.
Federal 180 grain ballistic tip boat tails shoot .25 MOA groups from my Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WBY magnum ( and it is not a sub-MOA model) but Federal, for some reason, discontinued this load about two years ago so I am carefully hoarding my last three boxes that I bought for $22 a box on a clearance sale from MidwayUSA when Federal stopped making this loading.
My M77 in .308 loves Winchester Powermax. Sub .75 MOA at 100 yards. Thats my new fav deer ammo
It likes 180gr Woodleigh Weldcores (Federal), but they're out of production now so im gonna have to find something else for moose. |
Model 70 26-06...115 gr. Winchester Ballistic Silvertips. Used to shoot 117 gr. Hornady SST's but they didn't seem to group as well as the Winchester's.
Model 70 .243...95 gr. Hornady SST Model 70 Coyote .223 WSSM...55 gr. Winchester Ballistic Silvertips Sub MOA groups @ 100 yards on all 3. |
The M700 270 I have will shoot anything good with the exception of 150 gr Speers. I prefer to use plain ol blue box Federal 130's in it because those bullets are absolutely dynomite on deer.
The M700 7-08 I carry a lot prefers Prvi Partizan... the cheap Serbian stuff. I get some obscene groups with it and it hammers deer just fine also. I dont really have a gun I cant get anything to group well in. The closest thing I have to a turd is a Vanguard 7mm. I havent found anything to go under 2 inches in it but everything is right around 2 inches so it would be fine to hunt with. |
I've got a savage 111 and have only put 150 gr. Winchester power points in it. I got 1 inch groups at 100 yards and said that was good enough.
Best bullets for my Rem 700 VLS are the 150 gr. Core Lokt. Best reload would be 150 gr. Sierra, BTHP.
My Browning A-Bolt .270 under 1/2" at 100 with Hornady Custom ammo in 130 Interbonds. Knocks 'em dead.

PEPs?,Never heard of them.I did have a Browning A bolt(25-06) that before I started loading for it I used some winchester 120s that were the PXP positive expanding point.Looked like they were kinda serrated on the end and were like they were almost a hollow point. These things were awesome shot great and almost never had an exit wound. But they dropped them like a hot rock.I don't shoot factory out of any of my guns.My Sako 25-06 loves hornady 117 grain interlock with a little over max load(no bad signs) of RL 22.My 7mm Rem.Mag. likes a 140 ballistic tip loaded near max. These two rifles are the exception to the rule on most of my guns .Most like less hotter loads for the best accuracy. |
My Pro Hunter in .35 whelen likes the 200 Core-Lokts best
I shot a .12 inch 5 shot group with cci ammo in my savage 17hmr.
